Political
This is my first foray into politics, though I've been a longtime member of Fair Vote Canada. I am also currently serving on the ethics committee of the Libertarian Party of Canada.
Motivation
Over the course of the last several elections, I have grown tired of holding my nose and voting for what I believe to be the lesser of several evils. The Libertarian Party's position against 'big government' and for personal freedom is unique among political parties in Canada. My hope is that the Libertarian party will continue to build, and that Canadians in all ridings will be able to express their preference for liberty in the future.
Vision
Many people believe Libertarianism is an immoral or selfish philosophy. I fundamentally disagree with that assessment. Today, many people are apathetic or even resentful toward the genuinely needy in our society because they feel their paying taxes should already have taken care of the problem. Only when we eliminate our dependence on government will we truly begin taking personal responsibility for our environment, and build stronger communities. To me, the idea that 2,000 Saskatoon residents felt strongly enough about the Station 20 West project to march into the streets in solidarity, but their only option seemed to be to lobby government for the funds rather than simply put the resources together to build it shows that there is something wrong with the way things are being run.
